GREAT SUCCESS
Brazilian movie industry is presently on
a boom both in production and in box-office
after a period of descent in the first half
of the nineties. Being of independent production
and releasing, Taina is 11th in the general
ranking of attendance in the last ten years,
with 900.000 tickets sold in regular movie
theaters. More 1.000.000 people watched
it at special showings in schools and community
spaces.
Last year the film was showed on Brazilian
paid TV.
Recently the film had its first exhibition
on open TV (Globo) with 20,000,000 spectators.
It has been sold to TV networks in Latin
America: Argentine / Chile / Colombia /
Equator / Mexico / Nicaragua / Venezuela
and China.

IMAGE AS A SCHOLARS SUPPORT
Special to the schoolteachers, Taina have
a booklet (see attached). This guide indicates
many subjects raised by the film among
pupils after the exhibition of its video
copy in classrooms. Thousands of these
events have already taken place in Brazil.
Elaborated by a team of high-level educators
it helps schoolteachers in stimulating
and supporting pupils to discuss and enlarge
their own views on ecology, environmental
conservation and social ethics. Taina
has proved to be both an attractive piece
of entertainment and a powerful educational
instrument for the improvement of ecological
awareness among children.
AWARDS
Taina usually is the big winner if the
festival is competitive, mainly when children
constitute the jury. The film already
won 10 International and 4 National awards.
